Great Blue Heron
These shots were taken at McVay Rock Beach by Brookings, Oregon, July 2012

This was an unexpected appearance as we hadn't expected to see a Great Blue Heron
stalking a gopher for lunch! We didn't even know that they ate gophers but upon
investigation later, found that was a special treat for them.
These are the largest birds in the Northern Americas, striking a majestic prescence,
quite impressive! More information from the Cornell Lab of Orinthology here, and voice from there also.
